Norcem temporarily halts production at plants

Norway-based Norcem has suspended operations at its Brevik and Kjøpsvik plants due to annual scheduled maintenance work and the crash of a central mill engine at Kjøpsvik. In addition, a supplier who should have carried out some of the maintenance work dropped out. Part of the production has been replaced by imports. CEO John Sunde says the company expects stocks to cleared but was unable to say for how long.

Last month Anhui Conch was forced to suspend production on three lines at its Tongling Conch plant in Anhui province. The suspension was due to the temporary closure of a pier used by the plant to export cement and clinker products and imports raw materials such as coal. The pier, which is located close to the Tongling Water Treatment Plant, was closed in accordance with new government regulations on drinking water supply and pollution.
